Joining audio: crossfade, direct or pause?

Crossfade overlaps the end of one part with the start of the next while fading between them (equal-power curve, so the volume doesn’t dip). 2–5 seconds sounds natural for music mixes; shorter fades (0.2–0.5 s) hide clicks between speech recordings.

Direct plays the parts back to back with no overlap — the right choice for audiobook chapters, live recordings split into tracks or anything that must stay gapless. Pause inserts silence, useful between podcast segments or language-learning phrases.

Files with different formats, sample rates or channel counts are converted to a common format (the highest sample rate is used). Turn on Match loudness when parts were recorded at different levels.

Drop both files onto this page, put them in the right order and click “Join 2 files”. Download the combined MP3.

Can I join files of different formats?

Yes. You can combine MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG and even the sound of videos; everything is converted to the output format you choose.

How do I add a crossfade?

Choose “Crossfade” under Transition and set the length (e.g. 3 s).

Can I use only part of a file?
