Converting FLAC to MP3 the right way
FLAC is lossless: it keeps every detail of the original recording, but a song takes 20–60 MB. MP3 at 320 kbps is about a quarter of that and, for most listeners and most equipment, indistinguishable.
High-resolution FLAC files (24-bit, 88.2–192 kHz) are converted with a high-quality resampler to the highest sample rate MP3 supports (48 kHz) unless you choose another rate.
Keep your FLAC files as the master copy — you can always create new MP3s from them, but not the other way round.
Size of a 4-minute song
| Format | Size | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| FLAC 24-bit / 96 kHz | ≈ 90 MB | Hi-Res master |
| FLAC 16-bit / 44.1 kHz | ≈ 25 MB | CD lossless |
| MP3 320 kbps | 9.6 MB | Best MP3 |
| MP3 256 kbps | 7.7 MB | Very good |
| MP3 192 kbps | 5.8 MB | Good |

How do I convert FLAC to MP3?
Drop your FLAC files onto this page, pick a quality preset (192 kbps is a good default) and click “Convert to MP3”. Then download the MP3 files.
What is the best bitrate for FLAC to MP3?
320 kbps CBR gives the best MP3 quality. 256 kbps or VBR is a good compromise for big libraries.
Can I convert 24-bit / Hi-Res FLAC?
Yes. 24-bit files and sample rates up to 192 kHz are supported and converted cleanly.
Is the album art kept?
Yes. Embedded cover art and all common tags are copied to the MP3.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The MP3 encoder runs in your browser, so your files never leave your device.
Are tags and album art kept?
Yes. Title, artist, album, genre, year, track number and cover art are written to the MP3 as ID3 tags.
Can I convert many FLAC files at once?
Yes — add up to 100 files (or drop a folder) and download all MP3s as one ZIP file.
