OGG vs MP3: what’s the difference?

OGG is a container format; the audio inside is usually Vorbis (older music files, games) or Opus (voice messages, Discord, modern web audio). Both are excellent codecs, but Apple devices, many car stereos and lots of software don’t play them.

MP3 plays everywhere. For music, convert at 192 kbps or more; voice messages sound clear at 48–64 kbps mono.

Converting between lossy formats loses a little quality, so don’t choose a lower bitrate than the original OGG.

Frequently asked questions

Can’t find your answer? Contact us — we reply quickly.

How do I convert OGG to MP3?

Drop your OGG files onto this page, pick a quality preset (192 kbps is a good default) and click “Convert to MP3”. Then download the MP3 files.

How do I convert a WhatsApp voice message to MP3?

Export or save the voice note (.opus or .ogg), drop it onto this page, choose 64 kbps and click “Convert to MP3”.

Does it support Opus files?

Yes. Both Ogg Vorbis and Ogg Opus (.opus) files are supported, as well as WebM audio.

Why won’t my iPhone play OGG files?

iOS has no built-in support for most Ogg files. Converting them to MP3 (or M4A) makes them play in every app.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. The MP3 encoder runs in your browser, so your files never leave your device.

Are tags and album art kept?

Yes. Title, artist, album, genre, year, track number and cover art are written to the MP3 as ID3 tags.

Can I convert many OGG files at once?

Yes — add up to 100 files (or drop a folder) and download all MP3s as one ZIP file.
