Social media image sizes in 2026: what to use where
Every network displays images in its own shapes, and a picture that does not match is cropped automatically, often cutting off heads or text. Uploading the exact pixel size avoids that and also prevents a second, quality-reducing resize by the platform. A social media image resizer does this for all networks at once, so one photo shoot or one graphic serves every channel.
Feeds have moved towards tall formats because they fill more of a phone screen. On Instagram the portrait post of 1080 × 1350 px (4:5) gets more space than the classic 1080 × 1080 square, and profile grids now show 3:4 previews. Full-screen vertical content such as Stories, Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts uses 1080 × 1920 px (9:16). Landscape still rules for link previews (1200 × 630), YouTube thumbnails (1280 × 720) and headers.
Cropping changes the composition, so check each format. Keep the subject near the centre, leave room at the top and bottom of 9:16 images where apps place buttons and captions, and remember that profile pictures are shown as circles. When a picture must not be cropped at all, such as an infographic, use Fit all in with a blurred or coloured background instead.
Most used social media image sizes
| Format | Size in px | Aspect ratio |
|---|---|---|
| Instagram portrait post | 1080 × 1350 | 4:5 |
| Story, Reel, TikTok, Short | 1080 × 1920 | 9:16 |
| Facebook or LinkedIn link post | 1200 × 630 | 1.91:1 |
| X post image | 1600 × 900 | 16:9 |
| YouTube thumbnail | 1280 × 720 | 16:9 |
| Pinterest pin | 1000 × 1500 | 2:3 |
Tips
- Remove location and camera data before posting with the Image Metadata Cleaner; not every network strips it for you.
- For a clean product or profile picture, cut out the subject first with the Image Background Remover.
- Need a share card with a headline rather than a photo? Design it in the OG Image Generator.
- Start with the largest picture you have. Enlarging a small image to 1080 px makes it soft; the preview marks such sizes as “enlarged”.

What is the best image size for Instagram?
1080 × 1350 px (4:5) for feed posts, 1080 × 1080 px for square posts and 1080 × 1920 px (9:16) for Stories and Reels.
Can I resize one image for several networks at once?
Yes. Tick as many sizes as you like across all networks. Every size is created from your original and downloaded together in one ZIP file.
Will my image lose quality?
Reducing an image keeps it sharp. JPG and WebP files are saved at the quality you choose (90 by default). Only enlarging a small picture makes it softer, and the tool warns you when that happens.
How do I avoid cropping my picture?
Choose “Fit all in”. The whole picture is placed inside the format and the empty space is filled with a blurred copy, a colour or transparency.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Resizing happens in your browser on your own device. The pictures are never sent to a server.
Which file format should I use?
JPG for photos, PNG for logos, screenshots and graphics with transparency. WebP gives smaller files but is not accepted by every network.
